Animated Review - Feast

Shown as the opening act to Big Hero 6, Feast is a short but sweet little gem that must be watched for its story, animation style and multiple times because of all the various little things that occurs in the background to tell the story.

Feast is a story that explores the relationship between a dog named Winston and his master from Winston's puppy years to his golden years told from Winston's POV and the meals he shares with his master. The art style is one of the highlights that stands out....oil pastel like feel with cel shaded touches seen in 3-D is absolute feast to behold and experience. The style also highlights the moods of the scenes, in addition to the meals Winston has...for example in the beginning when Wisnton is a scared stray puppy, the setting is a dark street at night but the brightest coloured object in the scene is a french fry he is offered then when he's in doggy heaven everything is washed in bright sunny colours akin to the fry he was first offered

The theme explore is the love and pleasure Winston gains from the meals he partakes with his master at first, Winston is adopted as a stray puppy after his future master gives him a fry....then all the happy moments of eating junk food with his master after that. However, when his master starts dating, Winston is forced to eat normal dog food which he dislikes. However he soon realizes its not the food that gives him happiness and love but rather its the love his master and others feels when feeding him, which in the end is what Winston gets when his master raises a family and Winston is in doggy heaven with all the love and food he could ever need and want. The interesting thing about Feast also is because the story line is told in quicks cuts of the meals Winstons has with his master...you have to pay attention to little details in the background or Winston's expressions to get a feel of what the story is telling you.

What do you think of Feast?

Rainbow Honey December and November Mystery 2014

Awesome my mystery mini bag from Rainbow Honey for December came and something esle I forgot to post...the Mystery Mini for November too....soooo loving the creative ideas Rainbow Honey comes up with each time. ^_^

November Mystery Mini
Seems to be a very grey set with Frozen Flames.
Frozen Flame seems very nice....a sweetish, candy citrus like scent.
The Two Polishes (Aurora and Greyscale) are nice.
Aurora is a silvery-gold with blue specks glitter topper, while Grey Scale is silvery grey.

December Mystery Mini
Loving the Russian theme in this very winter set.
The Master is very holiday polish red with gold specks.
Woland looks like a silvery-purple with specks of blues glitter topper.
As for the scent Muscovite....a very deep fruit smell that VERY appropriate for winter.
PS is it just me or has the bottle gotten bigger for minis?

Akimatsuri 2014 Con Report

Well Akimatsuri happened and boy it was tiring but fun, apologizes to anyone who had to deal with an increasingly exhausted me in a boxhead. Akimatsuri is a fall season one day, anime festival and this year it was located in the heart of downtown Vancouver at Robson Square-Ice Rink...annndd it was the same day and area as the Santa Claus parade which lead to some very amusing moments of parade goers wondering "where did all these costumes come from?!?!?!" and both sets of Anna and Elsa cosplayers that showed up were being mobbed by kids for pictures. It was actually kind of cute to witness.

This was my cosplay....meet the Dj duo & and the masters of electro mashups-fusions, the Djs from Mars. They actually do wear boxheads and never show their real faces ever. I was amused I was getting mistaken for a goomba and getting attention due to the cosplay's obscure nature. Plus I thought it was awesome and hilarious to waltz around downtown boxheaded. The boxhead wasn't that bad-hard to wear.

The festival was awesome...its mini con but still fun. Plus it was the perfect place to shop for that perfect Christmas present thats cute and unique....plenty of cute styles to go around. Got some very nice Frozen and Pokemon art prints to plaster on my sad, bare walls...and buttons!. Love this artist paddling something called "Moon Milk"....got stuff for myself and someone's christmas from this girl. Reminds of the found colour memories of Harujuku and kawaii stuff in tokyo. Plus her accessorys would be style appropriate in rave-clubbing setting. Check her out Here--> mnmlk.com

Cute!!!! Stuff from Moon Milk

To end it off....As for the cosplays that showed up....top notch

Giffany(s) from Gravity Falls....RUN!!!

I just had to take "atmosphere" shots to prove yes cosplayers did go skating and we can do it with grace.

Anna and Elsa...one of the sets that showed up. Awesome!

The Minion with a Rocket Launcher.

Meow Meow

Volcarona from Pokemon. Awesome and coozy for winter

Movied Review - Big Hero 6

Wow first all of I never thought I would be interested in watching Big Hero 6...but wow I was sold on the story and the very impressive art style....plus "Immortals" by Fall Out Boy is one very good and empowering song.

On the story front, the themes of using your gifts to be heroic, bonds between love ones we have or lost and revenge corrupts even the best of people. Hiro and his friends are scientific geniuses that seem to be the last people to be super heroes but they mange to do just that when Hiro wants to investigate the connection between his inventions, his brother's death in a fire and a mysterious masked kabuki mask. Its the strong bond between friends that drives to stand up and be heroes for the sake of others. How revenge corrupts is a driving theme also...if you lose someone you care about deeply, the sheer grief can drive one hell bent on revenge to the point the damage will be devastating as outline in the antagonist's motives and what almost happens to Hiro. The humor is also working...hahaha Baymax is just stealing the show with his lighter then air waddle, vocal delivery-personality and ummm COUGH letting out air....hairy baby! Oh yeh Hiro's Broom.

On the artistic front...wow! The Asian-North America influence and the extensive animation foundation is very strong as present in the sweeping opening shot of San Fransokoyo's city scape from above alight with neon at night and the initial test flight of Baymax's thrusters. The world feels awesome...its east meets west as highlighted in the Japanese style architecture mixing with the feel of San Francisco ex. the "Painted Ladies" and street cars. The texture and feel of the world itself feel rich and lavish, from the brickwork and rust of buildings, Baymax's very soft and hugable body, the microbots and the world breaking apart into debris rapidly in the final battle. I was amazed by Baymax's soft body....felt very soft and believable in weight despite it being a balloon mass and impressed at the fact i could partially see the textured surface of the vinyl fabric. The microbots were very impressive to see visually...imagine seeing a bunch of tiny itty bitty little bots moving in perfect mechanical harmony as they ebb and flow like a liquid mass on screen and in 3-D....also a bit unsettling at the same time, when they attack our heroes.

Well what do you think of Big Hero 6?

Pokemon Alpha Sapphire (First Impression and Midnight Release)

Well after saving up alot of funds from my artist alley stints I got Pokemon Alpha Sapphire. This was my first time lining up for a midnight release for anything....so it's me dressed as Kyogre Girl (it's sort of a tradition for me to cosplay somewhat when picking up a new pokemon game on release day) . It was lining up with several other people in a "secret" area of the mall. Fans who are here not just for Pokemon but also for Smash Brothers on WiiU and the Amiibo figures. Man those Amiibos really got snatched up in batches...they're really going to have to restock. Since I Pre-Ordered I got the special poster...that is one epic shot of Primal Kyogre!

As for my first impressions so far....feels likes old poke-times in Hoenn. Like that it started alias the gameboy advanced ver. then poof switches to 3DS view as Professor Birch does his monologue and....is it just me or is our character moving house....WHILE traveling in the back of a moving van with a dodgey door on a bumpy road? I'm not going to ask. Graphics are very nice....its a change from the French inspired Kalos but Hoenn feels true to its Japanese inspired roots with the anime-Asian feel in environment and looks. Battle mechanics still stay the same and in 3-D. The updated Nav is taking some used to after being used to XY's bottom screen for so long but the PSS of XY returns and DexNav is nice improvement on a very large scale....you get to scan what pokemon are in the local area. Very good tool for Poke-Hunting. I find it interesting to find Poke-Centres and Poke-Marts are now separate alias the original Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald games plus berry planting makes a return.

Can't wait to see what other surprises await me in this return to Hoenn....

Gamer's Review - Type:Rider

Ever played a game about the history of typography and fonts? Well you get your chance with Type:Rider, a platforming game with an interesting premise and art game feel. You play as a colon (as in this colon-->: ) riding through the history of typography. Its basic platforming style of game play with the exception, the colon acts like a pair of wheels attached by invisible, magnetic force and you have to adaptable to new obstacles introduced within each level like water and gusts of air.

The interesting thing about each level is each is based on a "Font" style and in turn the art style centered around the history of that Font, ex. Bauhaus for "Futura" and manuscripts for "Gothic". In addition there is a shadow puppet feel to the visuals, the colon and the obstacles are mostly black like a shadow puppet theatre. Its simple in gameplay, but feel sweets plus you get to learn the history of all those fonts, writing techniques and typography you might have been taking for granted every day.

1 Song, 3 Games = Lucky #13 by Blasterjaxx

Well its always happy times when djs give mp3 gifts to their fans. What better way to have fun with a gift then flying your spaceship in the music space and blasting enemy ships. Thank you Blasterjaxx. On the musical gaming challenge we have the new single from Dutch Dj duo Blasterjaxx, "Lucky #13". A bit of background info, Blasterjaxx is currently at #13 on Dj Mag's Top 100 Djs (gee I wonder why they named their song Lucky #13 ^_^) and these guys have the guts to remix/remake "Legend Comes to Life" aka Lugia's Song into one sweet, mystical sounding EDM track.

For those new to my "1 Song, 3 Games" segments....the games in question are Audiosurf, Beat Hazard Ultra, and Symphony. In Audiosurf and Symphony....hot colours = intense tempos and gameplay.

This is how the teaser sounds like on Blasterjaxx's Soundcloud --> Here My conclusion to this track when being play....Fever Pitches and Calm moments go hand in hand = BOOM

Audiosurf (On Mono Pro) - Wasn't that much of beast to travel through with the "slow" feeling nice and pretty to watch but careful when the countdown starts...then it gets intense.

Beat Hazard Ultra (On Normal Setting) - Ok it was a fireworks colour of a space battle but it had its rare moments of calm during the heat of the battle and moments I wish the tempo would pick up more when I'm being surrounded by ships that going to snipe me....then things got interesting when the fever pitches occur and I'm fighting to the end!

Symphony (On Mezzo Piano Difficulty) - For a track that was the "pleasant" blue denube most of the time....that was alot of ships blowing me up and beware the countdown and the ending. That when things get hot literally.

Halloween at Exp Bar 2014

Well Halloween has come and gone. Where was I that night and what was i dressed up as? Well I was cosplaying as Dale (Kingdom Hearts ver.) as in Chip and Dale for Halloween (and Tsukino Con's Cosplay) at Exp Bar.

For the 2nd time in a row, I was dressed as a Disney Character this Halloween (and Tsukino Con in winter) but I just had to dress up as Dale. Chip and Dale are some of my favorite Disney Characters and they both hold a very special place in my heart because...I watched the original cartoons & Rescue Rangers when I was young. I'm also like goofy Dale and my sister was like the serious Chip. I found Dale's outfit in Kingdom Hearts soooo cute that I wanted to make it into a cute dress. Tried to get it as accurate as possible but completely made the dress from scratch. No pattern was used. It was actually very comfy to wear...loose and fun. The details were done with fabric paints and the embroidery "borders" was hand stitched after many hours. I eve accessorize with the Dale doll I got from Tokyo DisneySea Park. I was kind of surprised people didn't think I was Dale (I was mistaken for Animal Crossing) but I'll admit his Kingdom Hearts outfit is sort a stretch for people to remember, however once I said "As in Chip and Dale" then they understand. I wish I got someone to be Chip or carry a Chip Doll.

Halloween at Exp Bar was fun....unfortunately I didn't show up (or hasn't started yet) for the costume contest It was Borderlands Halloween theme night. I do love that game but never played it cause...FPS makes me dizzy and the whole blood phobia thing. I loved the shots I had.

They call it the "Portal Shots" alias Portal the Game and man it was a very yummy vodka fusion topped with cream. Orange was Ammaretto-Orange while Blue was I think Blue Berry fruit cocktail taste. I had this set before and the whipped cream topping was new and wondering was it for Halloween. The topping made sipping an interesting task...sooo thick and yummy.

Anyway that was my Cosplay Halloween....wonder whats next year's plans hmm.

Rainbow Honey October Mystery Mini 2014

Whoa totally late with this one but here it is the Rainbow Honey Mystery Mini for October. I say this one has a very candy scent-theme going....of course its October Halloween Candy season. This batch came with two polishes, base coat, lip balm soap and perfume. The Soap and Perfume smells very sweet-candy in notes....Sweet November they call it. Lip Balm is L'Orange Ganache, very orange-chocolate scent.

The polishes
Brown : Cafe Con Leche (A light Brown alias coffee with milk)
Purple: Zi (a sheer, shimmering purple)
The thing I love about Rainbow shades is....the colour palette really appeals to the cosplayer side of me. Super fun shades. Here's "Cafe Con Leche" being used as part of my Dale (as in Chip and Dale) cosplay manicure.

Excited to see what esle Rainbow Honey comes up with.

Once Upon a Time in Steveston

Well even though I have no interest in "Once Upon a Time", there is something very magical when a film shoot happens right in your own backyard, your fellow cosplayer is a Once fan and I do love Frozen. That's right I work in the real village that stands in for Storybrooke in "Once Upon a Time", Steveston, BC in Canada. Steveston is an ols, heritage fishing village known for its fish market, interesting assortment of stores, food and people, and like the rest of Vancouver....has a habit of playing host to movie productions, like "Once Upon a Time" and the recent "Godzilla" movie.

During my work breaks, if there is a filming session going on, I like to see whats going on and maybe sneak in a few pics. Well this is almost all the pics I managed to snap up.

This bunch was taken with the 3DS's camera and it was around winter time last year.

Honestly we don't know when they'll film until like 1-2 weeks in advance. Most of the shops seen on screen are actual stores, so if you come and visit, you can vary much shop around the stores. The only fake store is the Storybrooke Pet Shelter, which is now Any Given Sundae....I suspect its the storage space for film props. The set dressings takes about one day to set up, then filming occurs next day.

This next bunch was taken with a normal camera and warmer seasons.

This "Building" is actually just vinyl sheets covering a wooden frame.
This is suppose to be the Sheriff's Office and eventually a wall with a "hole" was
added with a prop lamp post falling over with sparks.

On the last film session, I was very lucky enough snap up pics of the actors and actresses playing Anna, Elsa and Kristoff. I do love Frozen. The cast was very friendly and I was amazed at Elizabeth Lail's skill at playing Anna. She was complaining of sweating in her dress (just look at it!) but she stayed very upbeat and happy like Anna. That's staying in character.....or is it????

Queen Elsa (Georgina Haig) in the flesh.

Kristoff (Scott Michael Foster) and Anna (Elizabeth Lail)

Anna (Elizabeth Lail) upclose.
Look at the detail on her outfit!
Remember when you watch Once Upon a Time...remember you're seeing a real, working village and it's name is Steveston, BC in Canada.

First Dip into Dconstructed

I have to admit when I heard that Disney tunes was getting an electric dance remix makeover, I was both dreading it's going to be a train wreck especially with some of the choices being picked (plus not going to mention past some certain attempts at Dance remixes..COUGH Blue (Da Be Dee) Goofy ver.) and this is could be something good with some pretty sweet djs were picked as remixers, which include Avicii, and Armin Van Buuren.
Liking the stylized, cubic art look of the cover and booklet.

Well had a quick listen through the album and I can honestly say...It's not that bad, actually surprising good in some places with me loving certain tracks but I felt more could have been pushed with the bold electronic-clubbing sounds. I think I know why it's called "Dconstructed" What surprised me at first was...this was some heavy club influence sounds for a Disney album....varying amounts of disney nostalgia/feel with each tracks and some tracks sound so different from their original source, that its almost another song! Still trying to make sense of a few tracks. The original sources vary from the obvious choice Tron, to Dumbo and then Frozen <--This made me excited! TRIVIA! The one of the few non "remix" on this Album is "Partysaurus Overflow" which is inspired by the main theme of the Toy Story short, "Partysaurus Rex". *See Short Review Here --> (Here)

The tracks I like, are both Tron remixes (Avicii feat. Negin "So Amazing Remix" and Japanese Popstars Remix), "Let It Go (Armin Van Buuren Remix), and Kaskade's House Version take on "Baby Mine". Tron, out of all the Disney soundtracks, would be the best to remix electronic dance wise. Avicii's take on "Derezzed" sounds so different with the vocal addition especially, that it feels like another track and it sounds like abit of Avicii's earlier sounds. Despite the name "Japanese Popstars remix", the other Tron remix "Fall", is NOT a J-Pop remix....more like an electronic battle field of a remix. Armin Van's take on "Let It Go" is very different souning from the source but it's a good trance remix but I felt more could have been done with the vocals besides including only the chorus. Queen Elsa sounds awesome echoing in Trance space but more please. Awesome music video though. Kaskade's take on "Baby Mine" from Dumbo was one of the choices I was dreading over but surprisingly good and not butchering the original....it feels very relaxing, melodic, and soft in a dream like way. More cover then remix.

Overall, in my humble opinion, both the Disney and Music loving sides of me are satisfied despite feeling more could have been pushed. To be honest, this is one of the better remix albums Disney has issued. For other people...I highly recommend listening to the previews cause this album will "sing" differently for people which could be a shocker....and to end this review off...the official music videos from Disney's youtube channel for you to "sound check". Enjoy!

Circle of Life (Mat Zo Remix)

Derezzed (So Amazing Mix)

Let It Go (Armin Van Buuren Remix)

Rainbow Honey Mystery Mini September 2014

Hey guess what came in the mail today!!! My Rainbow Honey Mystery for the month of September and I say this is an interesting selection. I tried abit of the Pomme Rouge body and it smells very nice, the rose scent is more prominent but the after scent smells like fruity apples. Interesting to see body balm in a stick form works out, I assuming it for those dry patches while traveling. Looking forward to see what esle Rainbow Honey has in store.

The polishes from Left to Right
Asteroid B (Shimmery blue with stars)
Salacis (A Marine Green shade)
Sugarberries (I think I know why...)

Movied Review - Guardians of the Galaxy

It's been a very busy summer for me but still managed to go see a movie namely Guardians of the Galaxy. Usually I don't see super hero movies but after knowing the reviews and hilarious clips of Avengers....I decided to give Guardians a chance and I was starting to love the idea of gun totting Raccoon.

The things that are working for the movie are the inter-cast dynamics, the epic space battles and special effects and the humor woven into the action sequence narrative. We got a pretty good line of up of heroes and cast members. Gamora, the galaxy's deadliest woman with a soft side, loose cannon but loyal Drax and Chris Pratt as the rogue, hero Peter Quill. He's hilarious and a fine dancer. Groot is a tree with a heart of gold and reminds me of another Vin Diesel role, the Iron Giant, plus dude dancing baby Groot! Rocket turned out to be my favorite of the because well there is something epic about a little, fuzzy raccon wailing with a machine gun and he's different, unique in many different ways both physically and mentally.

The special effects are very much what you expect an epic space battle with marvel super heroes would be and maybe more. The spaceship designs are interesting. Ronan's ship is very unfriendly looking black mass, Nova corps are star shaped ships that can project a force field, and Peter's Milano has a slight vintage look to it. In addition the vintage feel of the movie, it carried on through the soundtrack which consists of 70-80's music, which creates an interesting combo, atmosphere. Ex.Peter is dancing on an alien planet in ruins to "Come and Get Your Love" while the credits roll. As for the humor..."oh yeh we're going to need his leg..."

Here's the trailer...

Highlights of Summer Composite

Well August has ended and time to reflect on the highlights of summer.  I thought it would be a great idea to gather all the souvenirs of my moments of summer and make a composite-college type of photograph to illustrate my summer. What would you photograph in your own college?

Program Guide - Night with Cirque Du Soleil's Totem
Autographed Italian-Canadian Flag - The Insane Night with Djs From Mars
Reese Button - The Artist Alley Stints at Mini Comi and SFU Summer Fest
Movie Ticket Stab - Seeing Guardians of the Galaxy with Friends.

Rainbow Honey - August Mystery Mini 2014

Well its been a very hot and long summer, but loving the August Mystery from indie co. Rainbow Honey. Its a very fruity combo to close off summer.....with some hearts and blues that seem to glow under black light. Good for me in clubs. :)

From left to Right:  488nm (looks like a UV glow), Modern Hearts (I can see why...), Royal Fruits Scent Top Coat,
Summer Juice Body Splash, and Royal Fruits Cuticle Balm and Perfume.
Royal fruits is smells very much fruity, but less on cherry and tropical and more...well a more regal, fruity scent of plums and peaches. Keep up the good work Rainbow Honey.

1 Song, 3 Games - Welcome to the Darkside by Djs From Mars

It's been long over due since I posted anything after and please bear with me on the boxheaded related posts again after the anime fests. Anyway it's time to play 1 song through 3 different musical games. The song we have the chopping block is the new single from Djs From Mars (yes those Boxheads), "Welcome to the Darkside". If you didn't notice from my previous posts and my cosplay choice for this summer, Djs From Mars are my favorite djs (along with a bunch of others).

I would love to thank the guys for giving me the mp3 as a gift and well it turned to be interesting play-through through 3 musical gamed universes. What can I say about the song other then you never expect epic opera vocals mixed with electro sounds in a EDM track. One awesome video too, the monochrome graphics and horror themes, greatly reminds me of the indie game Limbo (Click here for review of Limbo) .

The three musical games being used are Audiosurf, Beat Hazard Ultra, and Symphony. Generally it wasn't hell to playthrough with the exception of the fever pitches, but once the opera vocals come in everything calms down to somewhat serene grace. Playing through on Beat Hazard Ultra was literally a trip through hell in space since 3 bosses showed up....2 of them being the titanic sized snakes. Other then that great job guys and if you two are reading this....I challenge you to play through any of these games and have a high score shoot off!!!

Audiosurf (Mono Pro)- Hmmm it was quite melodic to play-through especially with the opera vocals taking over but wow those electro fever pitches.

Beat Hazard Ultra - (Standard Mode) - It traveling through space was hell this would be close to it, 3 bosses showed up and 2 of them were the giant snakes. A lot of fancy flying moves were needed alot.

Symphony - Actually forgot what happened here other my ship getting nipped and the opera arias sounded and felt nice with a calm blue stage.
